(For Jan. 29) A Songwriter Profile: Who Is Native Texan Jamie Lin Wilson?

You can find singer-songwriter Jamie Lin Wilson on her front porch with her four kids and husband, Roy, in D'hanis, Texas, just outside of San Antonio. A guitar won't be too far away, there's sure to be dirty bare feet close by and a sly remark or two will follow every conversation that's had.

Wilson may only be two full-length solo albums into her solo career, Holidays & Wedding Rings and Jumping Over Rocks, but she's not new around these parts. She has co-fronted bands like the Trishas and The Gougers and become an acclaimed songwriter in the Americana and Texas country music scenes.

Her most recent record, Jumping Over Rocks, was recorded at Arlyn Studios in Austin. Wilson's bio tells readers, "You're hearing my voice with the band—their playing, reacting to my emotions and my voice reacting to the things they're playing, all in real-time. I think that adds to the feeling of these songs."

Her voice ebbs and flows out of melodies so smoothly that the emotions being conveyed through her songwriting start to feel authentic to your own story.

I believe that the best way to get to know a songwriter is to get to know their heroes. Wilson is heavily influenced by country and Americana pillars John Prine and Guy Clark. Her storytelling comes from a good foundation with her humor, twang and attention to detail shining through in every song.

Wilson recently released her version of Mickey Newberry's "T Total Tommy." You can watch the official music video on YouTube.

You can catch Jaimie Lin Wilson at her upcoming shows. If you can't make a live gig, you can follow her social media and watch her trailer sessions on her YouTube channel.
