Everything You Need to Know About the Jack in the Box Secret Menu

Burger joint Jack in the Box might not be quite as big as McDonald's or Burger King or have quite the enthusiastic fan base as In-n-Out, but this chain with 2,200 locations across 21 states has its devotees. One of the first quick-serve fast food chains, founded in 1951, Jack in the Box helped pioneer the drive-thru (and the two-way intercom now used by every chain). And like every chain, there's a Jack in the Box secret menu for fans in the know.

According to the Jack in the Box website, flexibility is a hallmark of the fast food restaurant. They note that they don't make the food until you order it, and they serve their entire menu all day (including breakfast), so if you want a particular menu item made a certain way, all you have to do is ask. So these secret menu items may not be "secret" but they are fan favorites you won't necessarily find listed in bold print. But ask politely and be prepared to spell out exactly what you want, and the fine folks at Jack in the Box restaurant will make the secret menu items for you.

10 Jack in the Box secret menu items you have to try

1. Bacon Bacon Cheeseburger

Of course, you can get a bacon cheeseburger on the Jack in the Box menu. But if they have bacon bits, you can ask for a Bacon Bacon Cheeseburger, which means they will mash the crispy bacon bits into the burger patty before they cook it, and they'll add bacon to the cheeseburger. Double the kind of bacon, double the fun!

2. Ciabatta Bacon Cheeseburger

This delightful burger used to be on the Jack in the Box regular menu; if you ask nicely, you might find a store with the ciabatta buns and they'll make you this excellent secret menu item.

3. Sourdough Bread

One of the best things on the Jack in the Box menu is the Sourdough Jack, a burger with Swiss cheese, bacon, tomato and toasted sourdough bread. One of the even better things is that you can ask them to use the sourdough bread instead of a regular bun on any sandwich for an awesome Jack in the Box secret menu item.

4. Loaded Grilled Breakfast Sandwich

The regular breakfast sandwich is already a beast, with eggs, cheese, bacon, ham and sausage. Would you like turkey in that pile of meat? Or maybe extra slices of cheese? Add in some veggies like tomato and lettuce? Ask and they'll add anything they can to your hearty breakfast sandwich.

5. Mint Oreo Cookie Shake

Unlike some chains that only offer a mint-flavored frozen treat for a limited time, if Jack in the Box has mint ice cream, you can ask for a delicious Oreo shake made with mint ice cream instead of the regular vanilla. It's the perfect milkshake any time of year.

6. Jalapeño Poppers Nachos

Jack in the Box is more than burgers, nuggets and breakfast sandwiches. They also have tiny tacos (tiny tacos!!), which you can order loaded with lettuce, cheese sauce and taco sauce. But that's their regular menu; to order off the Jack in the Box secret menu, order the jalapeño poppers and ask for the cheese sauce (and maybe the taco sauce) on top.

7. Spicy Chicken Biscuit

Order a breakfast sandwich on a biscuit and ask for chicken strips instead of bacon or sausage, or order a chicken sandwich and ask them to swap the bun with a biscuit. Or you can order chicken strips and a plain biscuit and make your own mashup. Enjoy with a side of French fries for the perfect meal.

8. Western Taco

This Jack in the Box secret menu item takes a little bit of DIY assembly. Order the two tacos and onion rings, then add the rings to the tacos along with some BBQ sauce.

9. Extra cheese, extra bacon, and extra burger patties

You can always ask for more bacon, extra cheese slices or extra beef patties to take your sandwich to the next level. You can also ask for a different kind of cheese and swap Swiss for cheddar if that's more your thing, and have melted cheese or not depending on your preferences.

10. Maple Bacon Cheesecake

Order a slice of New York style cheesecake for dessert (or your meal, we won't judge) and ask for bacon bits and maple syrup on the side. You might have to pay a little bit extra for the add-ons to make this Jack in the Box secret menu item, but it's totally worth it.
