Cartoonist Rick Friday has been drawing farm cartoons for the Farm News for nearly two decades, but that all stopped last week.

According to KCCIFriday’s latest cartoon made a funny about the profits of Big Ag over Iowa farmers, but his editor and advertisers were not amused.

In an email, Friday’s editor explained that a feed supplier pulled their advertisements after seeing the cartoon. The editor canceled Friday’s relationship with the paper a day after the cartoon was published.

Friday says he has created more than 1,090 cartoons for Farm News over 21 years.

Here’s the cartoon that caused the stir.

Friday shared his thoughts about the cancellation on Facebook.

“I did my research and only submitted the facts in my cartoon,” he wrote. “That’s okay, hopefully my children and my grandchildren will see that this last cartoon published by Farm News out of Fort Dodge, Iowa, will shine light on how fragile our rights to free speech and free press really are in the country.”

If you ask me, the cartoon is pretty tame. Maybe Big Ag shouldn’t have such a big chip on their shoulder.

What are your thoughts on the subject of the cartoon? Let us know.
