"How many of these animals do you think you can beat in a fight?" has been a longstanding mainstay in playground talk. (Well, if you're like me, office cooler talk too!)
But people always seem to duck the great apes. They're too big and muscly... right? Well, one MMA fighter thinks that he can take one on - and he's putting his money where his mouth is. At least, he would be, if the whole ordeal could get cleared...
As reported by Essentially Sports, Cole Johnson, known by his nickname "Wavy MMA", has revealed he's put $500,000 on a fight with a chimpanzee. If it goes ahead, the pay-per-view will be streamed on September 11.
The MMA fighter, who is undefeated 1-0 in his professional career, has always believed he could beat a chimpanzee. In the post-fight interview of his winning fight, he touted, "I 100% wholeheartedly believe that I could beat a chimpanzee in a brawl."
Tough talk, right? He even called anyone doubting him "guys... who don't have a brain."

"But listen to me, alright?" he continued. "'Oh, it's six times stronger than a human'. First of all, no, it's not. You're hearing s*** from the internet and regurgitating it."
"A chimpanzee is two times the strength of a human. You know who else is two times the strength of an average human? Me. I've been grappling and wrestling my whole life. A chimpanzee is four feet tall and 130 pounds."

And, of course, the Internet couldn't get enough of it. In the comments section of a post touting that the fight will happen on social media, people were pretty doubtful. "If it were ever to happen he would get mauled to death within a minute or so," one commenter wrote.
But a few people thought he had it in him. "It's a chimpanzee not even an orangutan, let alone a gorilla," a poster commented. "The poor thing would get its a** wiped sooner than you can say 'steal tourists' food'."
Others saw the situation as an animal welfare concern. "This is stupid and abuse towards an animal, isn't this illegal?"
Of course, the whole thing might not even happen. It's incredibly dangerous, not to mention the legality, as that commenter wrote. And nothing's been confirmed by any venue or by Johnson himself.
