A social media influencer has been arrested in Morocco after posting a video criticizing her experience while visiting the country.
Videos by Wide Open Country
Yas Naubelle, 30, was detained by border authorities at Marrakech Airport on June 13 as she prepared to board a flight back to France.
The influencer was prevented from leaving the country and remains at the center of an ongoing investigation.
Influencer Arrested After Posting Critical Video
Naubelle had previously shared a video in which she criticized driving conditions in Morocco and accused police officers of unfairly targeting women.
"I've never seen people drive like this. It's super dangerous - cars, mopeds without helmets, with children on board, swerving suddenly," she reportedly said.
"It's less bad than here," she added when comparing Morocco to her native Algeria.
Naubelle also alleged that traffic officers frequently stop female drivers without justification.
She claimed the practice was used as a way to obtain money from women motorists.
The video, which has since been deleted, reportedly sparked widespread reaction online and triggered official attention.
Authorities later detained Naubelle at Marrakech Airport before she could depart the country.
Influencer Remains in Custody as Investigation Continues
Naubelle, who has more than 20,000 followers on TikTok and founded the Naubelle skincare brand, remains in custody while authorities investigate the matter.
According to Moroccan officials, her comments were viewed as offensive toward Moroccan citizens and as an insult to law enforcement authorities.
Investigators are examining allegations that she published insulting and defamatory online content directed at citizens and public institutions.
As of now, no formal charges or court dates have been publicly announced.
The case has renewed discussion around Morocco's approach to social media content. Particularly when comments are perceived as damaging to public institutions or national reputation.
A similar case drew attention earlier this year. This was when British national Sam Rushton, 20, was detained after filming and distributing videos of charitable work in Morocco.
Rushton was later charged with two counts related to recording and publishing footage without the consent of individuals featured in the videos, according to reports.
He spent one night in custody before being released and was eventually allowed to return to the United Kingdom after more than a week of uncertainty.
Further details regarding Naubelle's case are expected as the investigation progresses.
