This time-lapse video of a supercell, captured in Booker, Texas, puts Helen Hunt's Twister storm chasing to shame. Filmed during June 2013, this size of this swirling beast is massive and yet, eerily calm to behold.
As the clouds begin to form seemingly from the ground up, this Texas supercell storm picks up speed over the ground near the Oklahoma border. The division between the two skies is incredible, with the calm of the blue to the left of the storm coinciding with the hazy yellow of the storm itself on the right.
The storm culminates in a dark and purple horizon, with lightning streaking through the skies over the prairie lands. One can only imagine the view of the storm from the cars passing by on the road underneath it.
Images captured like these truly highlight our smallness on this planet, and serve to put our lives into perspective in a stunning way.
