Four years after playing his last show, Phil Collins is giving fans an update on his health.

The "In the Air Tonight" rocker has faced several setbacks in the last two decades, including a spinal injury impacting his nerves and mobility, a head injury, and five knee surgeries.
This caused the singer to sing his hits from a chair during his solo tour and his final 2022 outing with the band Genesis. Collins' son Nic took over on drums for both tours.
In a new interview with Zoe Ball for the BBC Eras podcast, Collins revealed that his situation has not improved much since his last update. We have the details below.
Phil Collins Now Has a Live-in Nurse
Collins shared that while he can walk with crutches, he needs someone available around the clock to assist him.
"You know, I have a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should do," said Collins. "I've had challenges with my knee. ...I had everything that could go wrong with me, did go wrong with me."
But one change the Genesis drummer has made in recent years was becoming sober.
"I was never drunk, although I fell over a couple of times," Collins said. "But it is just one of those things that happened, and it all caught up with me, and I spent months in the hospital."
He added that the last few years were "difficult, interesting, frustrating," but things are "alright now."
Don't Expect New Music From Collins Soon
In the 2024 documentary Phil Collins: Drummer First, the performer shared that he is still adjusting to the idea of not stepping behind his kit.
"It's still kind of sinking in a bit. I've spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock," Collins said.
Then last year, Collins shared that his limited mobility has now impacted his desire to write more music.
"I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens," he said. "But I'm not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I've been sick, I mean very sick."
