It has been widely understood that Mayor Henyard has been spending funds frivolously. But, it took the long investigation of former Chicago Mayor, Lori Lightfoot, to uncover it. Recently, the true extent of the spending has been exposed.
The findings were read out to a court full of disgruntled residents. However, Henyard failed to show. The full list of expenses charged to village credit cards and other funds came to hundreds of thousands. These included all expenses paid trips to Vegas, meals, and entertainment. The Mayor is even being accused of spending thousands on hair and makeup.
The mayor of Dolton, Illinois has had access to funds from 2001 until 2004. In this time she has managed to rack up plenty of expenses. The issue with many of them is that there are little to no solid records of where the money went. The invoices and receipts are vague.
However, Lightfoot has managed to get to the bottom of enough of them, and it doesn't look good.
Mayor Henyard Spending Village Funds On Personal Fun
The full report is being pieced together, and the spending of village funds is finally being revealed. The report states that Henyard spent over $171,000 on travel-related expenses, including airfare, baggage fees, hotels, meals, and rental cars.
Furthermore, $218,000 was spent on Amazon in her 4-year term as mayor. These expenses are even harder to track, so who knows what that was for. A lot of the money the mayor got busy spending went on personal pleasures.
According to the report, $50,000 went to local restaurants. But, she needed to look good for the meals so a further $7000 was spent on a hair and makeup team. This mayor knew how to live.
Exactly where the money went has been hard to trace because "Many of the credit card expenditures have no accompanying receipt, and the statements alone provide limited information about the purchases." She has covered her tracks by destroying the evidence.
During the hearing, Lightfoot was asked if Henyard would be held accountable and face charges. However, no solid answer was given.
