This brief reunion took place on Thursday, March 19, at Broken Bow Records' annual late-night party during the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. The event, which honored Jason Aldean, was an unexpected moment for fans.
What Did Florida Georgia Line Play?
According to the Page Six, Florida Georgia Line took the stage to perform "You Make It Easy," a song they co-wrote with Morgan Wallen and Jordan Schmidt. Aldean took this song to the top of the charts back in 2018.
During the performance, Hubbard called Kelley his "brother." This certainly leads fans to believe that things between the two weren't as bad as people thought.
Could the Band Get Back Together?
The "This Is How We Roll" group announced it was taking an indefinite break back in February 2022. Hubbard and Kelley then broke up after their final show in August of that year.
Late last year, Hubbard went into more detail about what led to the band's demise.
He said while he thought things were fine between him and Kelley, on a personal level, Hubbard was stressed out. His wife had just given birth to their third child, and he was recovering from an ankle injury.
Then Kelley sent Hubbard a new song.
"I said, 'I feel like it'd be a great Chesney pitch. You ought to send it to Chesney and see if he'd bite on it,'" said Hubbard. "And he said, 'Well, I did actually send it to Chesney. And he passed on it, which I'm taking as a sign.' And I said, 'Well, what sign for what?' And he said, 'Well, that I should do it.' And at that point, I'm like, 'What do you mean?'"
The two had talked about Kelley going solo before, but now he was serious. Hubbard told him the timing seemed wrong and he should wait "five or ten more years." Hubbard said he had his support, but there was one thing he would not do.
"I'm not willing to do Florida Georgia Line and then have a direct competitor that's my partner doing the same exact thing," Hubbard explained. "I also told him, 'I don't think I deserve 50% of you if I'm willing to give a hundred.'"
Hubbard said the breakup wasn't anything dramatic, and he wishes he had handled things differently.
He explained, "There's not a good guy, bad guy, which everyone wants to do that on the internet... [Kelley] stuck to his convictions and led with his gut and decided to make a decision based on his passion. I set a boundary."
Then, back in January, Kelley hopped on the nostalgia trend and posted a clip of him and Hubbard hiking while "Cruise" plays. Fans began to speculate that relations between the duo were thawing.
With spring on the way, it looks like something is beginning to blossom between Kelley and Hubbard again.
