The Chicks, which features artists Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, and Emily Strayer, announced that they have new music on the way. The group is commemorating the 20th anniversary of one of their more popular projects, Taking The Long Way.
On Monday (August 10), the group said that they will re-release the anniversary edition of their 2006 album. It will also feature five bonus tracks. Another treat for fans is that two of their more popular songs, Thin Line and Live Wire, will be available to stream for the first time.
The Chicks Set to Release 20th Anniversary Album
"It's hard to believe it's been 20 years since Taking the Long Way. These songs take us right back to one of the most defining times in our lives, and it's incredible how much they still resonate today," The Chicks wrote in a press release on Monday (via PEOPLE).
The Chicks are also set to go on tour to commemorate the release of the May 2006 album this September. And the demand is clearly there because they have added three additional shows to the tour. One in Philadelphia on October 7, another in Boston on October 9, and one in Los Angeles on November 3.
The group described the combination of the new album and accompanying tour as the "perfect way" to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the project with their fans.
"We're so excited to finally share some unreleased tracks and to perform the entire album on this tour. It feels like the perfect way to celebrate this journey with the fans who have been with us every step of the way," they added in the release.
Of course, fans had plenty to say about the announcement on social media.
"Their music has saved me so many times in life. I love that they're back and they don't give a f**k about the trash and s**t talkers out there," one user wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"Country radio pushed out one of the greatest country groups to ever play - The Dixie Chicks. But their real fans never left them," a second user added.
The tour is set to kick off in September with the album scheduled for an October release.
