Former En Vogue singer Dawn Robinson has revealed online that she has taken to living in her car. She has chosen to go off-grid and turn her car into a camper after life forced her hand.

Her decision came after a number of life events left her with few options. She had previously been living with her mother in Las Vegas. According to her heartfelt video, things became difficult at home. She had been attending a lot of interviews, requiring a lot of time and effort. But, her mother became unbearable to live with.

"'If you guys were with me, what in 2020, I did like 105K interviews and in the interim I was living with my parents in [Las] Vegas and that was wonderful until it wasn't," she explained. "I love my mom [Barbara Alexander], but she became very angry and [she was taking] a lot of her anger out on me."

From there, she got the offer to move in with her manager, but there simply wasn't the space. They both owned dogs, and things would be too cramped. So, she went for another very expensive option before she began living in her car. "So it turned into, 'Okay, I'm going to put you in a hotel for the night.' And that one night turned into eight months [at $3K/month]," she revealed.

Car Living Isn't As Bad As It Sounds

Despite the En Vogue singer seeming to be living rough, she says that sleeping in her car isn't the worst. In fact, she's kind of enjoying it. The opportunity to be off grid, and having a bit of time to really ground herself seems to be therapeutic.

"I felt like I was on a camping trip. I just felt like it was the right thing to do. I didn't regret it. You know, a lot of celebrities have lived in their cars," she explained.

Her time spent living in her car has given Robinson time to reflect. "You may have heard of something called the dark night of the soul," she said in her YouTube video. "That's when you go through like a period of isolation, a period of separating yourself from family and friends, and I'm definitely in the trenches of this right now. [But] I wouldn't trade my experiences and what I've gone through for the world," she said.

Despite falling on hard times, she has found a silver lining.
