Following his sudden and heartbreaking death, James' husband, Adam Roth, has now launched a GoFundMe. The aim of the fundraiser is to help cover expenses following James' death.
"Our bright light, James Barker, died from an unpreventable and tragic sudden death on June 12th, 2026. Like everyone who loved him, we're still struggling to comprehend a world without him," the description to the GoFundMe reads. "There was no time to prepare for this, and in the wake of his death, his loved ones are now navigating both profound grief and immediate financial responsibilities."
The GoFundMe has been set with a $75,000 goal and has already raised $36,920. The description continues by detailing how the money will be used. That way, donors know what they're helping with.
"We're raising funds to help cover the costs of honoring James' life with the celebration he deserves, as well as mortgage payments on the home he shared and adored with his partner, monthly bills, legal fees, and taxes."
James Barker's Husband Had Previously Issued a Statement on His Death
When speaking with PEOPLE following the shock news of his husband's death, Adam issued a statement about the person James was, and why he loved him.
"James was the absolute light and love of my life. He brought joy and brilliance to everything he touched," Roth said. "We met at a Billie Eilish concert, and live music was a constant in our relationship."
As Adam continued with his statement, he shared his pride in the work his husband did before admitting that losing James was "unimaginable."
"I am so proud of the work he did and that he was surrounded by such an amazing team," Adam continued. "His loss is unimaginable."
Currently, no details regarding James' death have been made public. All we know is that it was sudden and unexpected. Our thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.
