Hunter Hayes Encourages Fans to Roll up Sleeves and Donate Blood

Hunter Hayes says 2015 is his year to be brave, and he’s starting by facing his fear of needles. The young country singer  is turning his “fear into purpose” by pledging to donate blood to the American Red Cross, and he wants his fans to do the same.

Hayes hopes to encourage 21,000 fans to make the pledge to roll up their sleeves and donate through his SleevesUp campaign. He’s asking concertgoers on the Wheels Up Tour to make an online pledge to give blood by the end of the year.

“There is a line in my new single, ’21,’ that says ‘life ain’t long enough,'” said Hayes. “I wanted to team with the American Red Cross to honor and celebrate all of those individuals who are constantly giving back and trying to make lives longer and better for sick patients around the country.”

Fans can share their blood donation pledges, photos and stories on Twitter through the hashtag #HH21SleevesUp. And if you’re wondering, “Why 21,000 donors?” – Hayes just released his new single “21” last month. Hayes has only garnered 79 donors so far, but no worries; the campaign just started.

The SleevesUp initiative will run through the summer, which is one of the Red Cross says is one of the most challenging times of the year to collect blood since most regular donors are traveling and vacationing. But the Red Cross says it hopes to boost blood donations by partnering with Hayes for the virtual blood drive.

“We’re thrilled that Hunter is the first country artist to host a SleevesUp virtual blood drive,” said Darren Irby, a spokesperson for the American Red Cross.”As Hunter tours across the country, he wanted to engage his fans for good. SleevesUp allows his fans from coast to coast to pledge to donate blood through the Red Cross at a blood drive that is most convenient for them.”

If you want to be one of Hayes’ 21,000 fans to donate this summer, you can pledge to donate by visiting Once you pledge, then you can head on over to, the American Red Cross Blood Donor App or call 1-800-RED-CROSS to set up your donation appointment near you.
