HR Exec Defends Close Relationship with CEO After Coldplay Kiss Cam Controversy

The HR exec argued that the kiss cam incident was a result of a "high-intensity" work environment with the CEO, not an affair.

We all remember the Coldplay kiss cam controversy, right? We reported on it back in August last year. If you're not clued up, an apparent affair between two high-profile execs was upended by a kiss cam at a Coldplay concert. There was lots of ridicule online about it.

But, Kristin Cabot, the HR exec of the whole ordeal, has defended her and Astronomer CEO Andy Byron's relationship. As reported by the New York Post, she went on an Oprah interview to tell her side of the story.

Cabot revealed that the whole kiss cam controversy wasn't born out of an affair. She said that she'd already split from her husband. Instead of an affair, as a lot of people assumed, the whole thing was apparently because of a "high-intensity" professional culture.

Cabot established a "very close" working relationship with Byron because of this culture, where employees shared desks and social drinks happened often.

Cabot explained that the night of the kiss cam incident, her daughter told her that her ex-husband was going to the same concert. "My daughter's like, 'This is so fun! Great!'... and in my mind I thought, 'Well, that's... is this going to be weird if he sees me with Andy? Like, if I run into him,'" she said.

Cabot Apparently Shared a Desk With the CEO

Prior to the kiss cam incident, the two apparently shared a desk. She said that her ex-husband knew they were close, getting drinks and lunches together.

"...he knows how closely Andy and I work together. He knows we socially got lunches and got drinks. It was fine", she said. "He knows the nature of my work and the way the relationships... I've shared desks with the CEOs I've worked with. Like, it's just a very close [relationship], so it didn't matter."

Commenters on the outlet's post revealed that people still think she was in the wrong. One wrote, "I don't think Kristin (who I used to work with years ago) deserved death threats... she definitely proved that she does not belong in a HR leadership position for any company."

Another wrote, "This POS is leaning into it." Harsh!
