Howie Mandel Snaps at TV Host for Saying He Looks Great for 70

Howie Mandel made an appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark earlier this week, and things got a little awkward between the comedian and hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.

The husband and wife opened the segment by congratulating him on recently turning 70. However, the conversation quickly took an unexpected turn.

Don't Talk to Howie Mandel About His Age

Ripa told Mandel, "It doesn't make any sense." He then replied with a question, "What do you mean, it doesn't make any sense?"

Trying to ease any tension, Consuelos offered that Ripa meant Mandel looks great.

"That I look great?" Mandel said. "That doesn't mean anything."

He then elaborated by adding, "I don't like that because that's a caveat, 'cause you tell someone you're 70, and they go, 'you look great—'"

Attempting to clarify, Ripa explained that she and Consuelos were "not saying you look great for 70. Rather, 'We're saying you look great, and I don't believe you're 70.'"

Mandel was still hung up on the mention of his age, making his point that the hosts were saying exactly that "without saying 70."

He added, "No, no. It's like saying you're smart for a stupid person. 'Oh, you seem smart, you seem smart,' you see, no, I don't look good."

Wait, Is This A Bit?

Consuelos once again told Mandel that he "looks good." Mandel couldn't disagree, adding that he is "gorgeous."

Watching the exchange, it's hard to tell if Mandel is genuinely offended by the couple's remark or if he's just messing with them. Given his long career in comedy, we're leaning toward the latter.

The conversation thankfully shifted. Mandel then discussed how he achieved his svelte physique. He credited it to a "ridiculous" workout routine.

"Your friend, [host and actor] Jerry O'Connell, got me into the most ridiculous workout I've ever done in my life," Mandel said. "I swim, but have these cables which I tie onto my ankles, and then I attach them to whatever is at the side of the pool."

He added, "Then he gave me these frying pan paddles, and I swim for an hour and go nowhere."

It's definitely working because Mandel does look good. Just to clarify, we think his age has nothing to do with it. You can watch the full clip below.
