Rita Connors had been traveling with her husband, Francie Connors, and their three-year-old daughter, Ka, when tragedy struck on Wednesday, April 1.

The family were riding together in the carriage when the collision occurred.

Francie and the horse were pronounced dead at the scene, while Ka later died from her injuries that same day.

Three Killed in Devastating Horse and Carriage Crash

The family's carriage was struck by a white dump truck at around 6:25 p.m., leaving Rita critically injured.

She was rushed to hospital, where she remained in critical condition for several days.

However, eight days after the crash, Rita succumbed to her injuries, completing a heartbreaking loss for the family.

The 29-year-old driver of the truck has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.

Authorities also confirmed he was detained on suspicion of "driving whilst unfit."

He has since been released on bail as police continue their investigation and appeal for witnesses.

Tributes have begun to pour in, including from My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty, who revealed that Francie was his cousin.

Doherty, 67, shared a video on social media with the caption "GOD BLESS THEM ALL RIP."

Tributes Pour In After Family Tragedy

In the emotional video, Doherty revealed that Rita's life support machine had been turned off following the crash.

He thanked those who had offered prayers and support, before sharing a heartfelt message.

"Never worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow's not yours to worry about. Live for today. God bless you all."

Messages of support quickly followed online.

"My heart goes out to Rita's mum Kathleen. It must of been the hardest and most awful week of her life," one user commented.

"Sending my love to you all paddy, my heart breaks for you all," another wrote. "May they all rest in peace and the 3 boys find the love and comfort to guide them through the hard times ahead."

Doherty had previously posted a video on April 2, asking for prayers for Rita as she fought for her life.

In that message, he confirmed a police investigation was ongoing and reflected on the sudden nature of the tragedy.

He added, "If you ever think you're down and hard, please look at that ...went for a drive, him, his wife and his baby."
