With only four laps left to go in the NASCAR Daytona 500, Christopher Bell took a bad corner and smashed into the wall. As he veered back into the pack, driving in excess of 150 mph, he clipped a few cars. One of these is Ryan Preece, driving car number 60.

As he crashes into the other NASCAR car at Daytona 500, it throws the front end of the vehicle into the air. At these speeds, all control is lost. The car continues to lift, eventually spinning sideways and flipping completely over on itself.

As it continues at speed, it lifts completely into the air, landing on its roof, and sliding along the ground. The NASCAR racer smashed into the sides of the Daytona 500 tracks and rights itself, sliding back across the track on all four wheels. However, the car is seriously damaged.

Incredible NASCAR Engineering Saves Driver's Life at Daytona 500

There are few cars in the world that could survive an impact like that. At enormous speed, the car flipped onto its roof and smashed into concrete barriers. But, as the car came to a rest, the driver signaled his consciousness by dropping the safety net.

After being recovered from the savage crash at the NASCAR Daytona 500 race, Preece found time to speak about the experience. "When the car took off like that it got real quiet. All I thought about was my daughter," Preece revealed. "So I'm lucky to walk away but we're getting really close to somebody not being able to. So I'm very grateful."

Those moments of disaster can feel like hours. He had time to think about his life in the air. This wasn't his first crash either. At the Coke Zero Sugar 400, Preece flipped his car 10 times. But, he came out of that one alive and kicking too. Nothing is stopping him from racing the NASCAR Daytona 500.

These cars are made to incredible specs. Not only are they able to hit speeds in excess of 200 mph, they also protect their drivers.
