The Hollywood star took to social media on Thursday (October 15). And showed off his dramatic weight loss that he discusses in his new memoir. The photos show him in a completely different light. With a full beard and a full head of hair. A complete 180 from his usual dapper appearance.

Joe Manganiello Shows Off Shocking Weight Loss in New Post

In the new book, Manganiello talks about an autoimmune illness that he had to navigate for seven years.

Manganiello had to undergo a surgical procedure to remove his large intestine. In the caption, the Spider-Man actor says that he lost 60 pounds as a result of the surgery.

"In the days following the amputation of my large intestine, my weight began to plummet," he wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday (via Entertainment Weekly). "I would ultimately lose a total of 60 lbs during the two weeks following the surgery. If you zoom in, you can see the top of my first ostomy bag creeping over the sheets.

In the second photo on his Instagram carousel, the actor shares a "shot of [his] abdomen after the reconnection/take down surgery of anastomosis."

He also adds: "What was left of my digestive tract was reconnected."

The third photo includes a close-up of Manganiello's face. He called it "an example of the multitude of skin conditions [he] was plagued with during the seven years [he] was sick,"

The actor also added: "My skin, an immune organ, was stricken with just about every condition known to man, usually in combinations."

Star Talks Life After Battling The Illness

In October, Manganiello told Entertainment Weekly that he still has some lingering effects from his battle with the disease. But he is ultimately grateful to have come out on the other end of it.

There are remnants from the surgeries and procedures that I have to live with, but I don't complain about them because life is manageable," Manganiello said.

"I weathered that storm and came out the other end, and I say it in the book, but life began again for me. So the answer is healthy, happy, peaceful — which is quite a difference from what I went through in the book."
