Fall lovers may want to adjust their plans for hot apple cider and upcoming gingerbread cookies. It looks like a holiday staple is being recalled across six states.

Indeed, it seems elevated levels of lead have been found in a favorite cinnamon brand.
Lior Cinnamon Ground Seasoning is a baking staple from Galil Importing Corp. of Hauppauge, New York. And it is being pulled from shelves, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) disclosed on Sept. 24. "It has the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead," the FDA wrote.
The cinnamon seasoning is sold in cases of six, in 90-gram transparent plastic containers.
Meanwhile, the recall affects dates going back to last year, from Nov. 18, 2025, to Sept. 7, 2026, and in "grocery stores, delis, and supermarkets located in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Florida & Illinois," per the FDA. "The lot code GAP11304 can be found on the side of the container under the ingredient line."
"Consumers should not consume the product and should either discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund," the FDA urged.
No Illnesses Have Been Reported Amid Cinnamon Recall
So far, no illnesses have been reported, according to the FDA. However, the FDA detailed the effects of short-term exposure to lead for concerned cinnamon lovers.
"Additional signs and symptoms of lead exposure are more likely with acute exposure to higher levels of lead or chronic exposure to lead," the FDA explained. "While lead can affect nearly every bodily system, its effects depend upon the amount and duration of lead exposure and age/ body weight."
The voluntary recall follows elevated levels of lead in the holiday staple. The lead was discovered in a sample analyzed by the Maryland Department of Health.
"The company has begun a supplier investigation and implemented enhanced testing and supplier verification measures to prevent a recurrence," the FDA added. Galil Importing Corp. also asked customers to "stop distribution and sale of the affected product and place remaining inventory on hold."
