Hockey Icon Gives Health Update Amid Stage 4 Cancer Battle

The hockey legend has given some promising news to fans. He revealed the latest in his battle with cancer.

New York Giants legend Ron Duguay revealed last year that he was diagnosed with colon cancer. Last month, his family posted a GoFundMe for help with the treatment costs, as we reported in February. But now, he has some more promising news to tell.

As reported by the New York Post, Duguay revealed that he seems to be getting a little better. His blood markers, which were spiking, have improved since his late-stage diagnosis. Blood markers refer to the counts of red and white blood cells, which show how the immune system is working.

He said, "My strength has come back and when I have days like this, I need to celebrate it," He also revealed that he shaved his head because of the cancer, with his hair growing back "darker and thicker". He also revealed that he might be enrolled in a new immunotherapy trial if this good news keeps up.

The hockey icon explained the reasons why he kept his cancer battle private, even through appendix surgery and losing 50lbs. "A part of me was embarrassed. Here I am a role model for good health, and I'm the one who gets sick."

Sarah Palin Is Caring for the Hockey Icon

The hockey icon's companion, former governor of Alaska Sarah Palin, has been "a great companion" to Duguay since his diagnosis. The two have been seeing each other for 3 years now, having first met in 2022. He was even at her Alaska home when he first started to feel unwell, before his tragic diagnosis.

The two have been caring for each other ever since. Duguay described caring for Palin's 16-year-old son, Trig, who has Down Syndrome. "Ron is so good with Trig. A lot of people would shy away from a situation like that but Ron is very nurturing and empathetic. He's been a helpmate with Trig."

The hockey icon said that Palin would often fly to be by side during treatment, and would even sleep in his hospital room rather than at a hotel. How sweet is that!

We hope that the hockey legend Ron Duguay has a swift recovery.
