According to local outlet Il Tirreno, the incident took place at the Santa Maria a Monte municipality in Pisa, Italy. Reportedly, Gaetano was visiting his father to celebrate Easter. However, police believe that an argument prompted the violent incident that ensued. Ceraulo allegedly shot Gaetano in the face. Later, he pointed the small-caliber pistol at his head and pulled the trigger.
Gaetano, however, managed to survive the shooting. With blood pouring out of his face injury, he was able to drag himself out to his car and drive to a bar in Valdinievole. Gaetano took his dog with him. He entered the bar, left the dog with the owners, and got into another vehicle that took him away. He has received treatment in Felice Lotti Hospital and is out of danger, as per the outlet.
However, Ceraulo's condition is much more serious. Italian Carabinieri arrived at Ceraulo's home alongside a helicopter to rush him to Cisanello Hospital in Pisa. He is currently hospitalized and is in very serious condition, according to Il Tirreno.
Gucci Murder
Benedetto Ceraulo was found guilty of murder in 1998 in connection with the 1995 killing of the emblematic Maurizio Gucci. He acted on behalf of Gucci's ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani, who orchestrated the killing, which took place outside of Gucci's office in Milan. In 2000, following an appeal, his sentence was reduced to 28 years, 11 months, and 20 days.
While he was sentenced to life in prison, in 2017, he was granted "semi-liberty" under the condition that he participate in a social reintegration project, as per La Stampa. In 2023, he was released from prison.
Reggiani, known as the "Black Widow," was sentenced to 29 years in prison, but only ended up serving 18. She was released in 2016.
