After almost three long years, families of the victims can finally get some semblance of closure. Robert Crimo III, also known as the Highland Park mass shooter, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The judge in his case, Judge Victoria Rosseti, claimed that Crimo was "beyond rehabilitation." Also, the NY Post claims she said he was "irrevocably depraved." Additionally, she argued that he had "a complete disregard for human life."

Besides his actions at Highland Park, his actions in the courtroom also supported the judge's claims. One would assume when he finally got his day in court, he would show some remorse. Unfortunately, that was not the case. First, the Post shared that he "refused to attend his sentencing hearings and face his victims' loved ones."

Additionally, after his capture and his confession, he opted to call the Post with one of the oldest pranks in the book. While most people would be feeling remorse, he was prank calling news outlets asking if their refrigerator was running.

The Warning Signs

It would appear as if there had been warning signs to Crimo's criminal behavior prior to the mass shooting. The Highland Park mass shooter had had multiple run-ins with the law previously. Crimo's father admitted that he spent two months in jail back in 2023 because of his son. He landed himself behind bars "after pleading guilty to seven misdemeanor reckless conduct counts in connection with his son obtaining a gun license."

Additionally, the Post shares that Crimo III also had an encounter with officers back in 2019. During one of those incidents, the police "seized a number of knives" from Crimo "after he reportedly threatened to kill everyone." When he was questioned about that incident, he admitted to using drugs in the past and to his depression.

Based on his actions just three years later, it would appear that he never got the help he needed. However, after his disregard for human life and the murder of seven individuals, the Highland Park mass shooter finally got his day in court. Now, he is serving a sentence of seven consecutive life terms.
