Meadville police are investigating a Pennsylvania high school basketball game between Union Town and Meadville, according to the New York Post. The brawl kicked off during the fourth quarter of the match on Friday night, and spiraled so far out of control that police 'expect to charge several fans and players.'
A short clip on X, posted by @ETNreisenweber shows how the events unfolded. Fans start brawling in the stands, with one man in a white jersey throwing a barrage of punches as another in a green top jumps on him from behind. Players quickly approach the stand where the fighting has started, and commotion rapidly escalates to the court. One commentator says, "Uh-oh, this is getting really bad. This is getting really bad on both sides. You've still got people coming loose on the court here. What is going on? What is wrong with these people?"
As the camera pans across the court, the commentator exclaims, "You've got players all around trying to fight, and this is absolutely crazy."
"I would not be surprised if the game gets suspended and not resumed, and Meadville declared the winner. I've never seen anything this ugly break out in person," he added.
Several Fans Left The High School Game In Handcuffs
According to a report by TMZ, police cuffed two men on the court, including the man in the white jersey. Authorities are looking into the brawl and expect to charge several fans and players with 'Disorderly Conduct.'
USA Today explains that the fight broke out after match officials called a technical on a Union Town player. The punch-up started behind the Meadville bench as Union Town fans approached the opposing supporters. The PIAA had reportedly declared Meadville the winner, although the tweet has since been deleted.
PIAA executive director Robert Lombardi told the outlet in an email, "I have contacted the schools involved and have requested a report from them. I have no further comment until I receive their reports."
