Eliot Abramson, 17, was participating in a college recruiting event on June 1 when a fast-moving lacrosse ball struck him.
The sophomore midfielder from Mercer Island High School was hit at the base of the neck. The ball reportedly slipped beneath the back edge of his helmet.

Witnesses said Abramson immediately lost consciousness and collapsed to the turf following the impact.
A firefighter who was attending the event reportedly performed lifesaving measures to keep his heart beating until emergency responders arrived.
Abramson was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, he died on June 7 after spending nearly a week in intensive care.
His mother, Jessica Abramson-Lott, announced the heartbreaking news in a social media post.
She shared that her son would now be reunited with his biological father, Josef Abramson, who died when Eliot was just three years old.
"While Eliot's time on earth will end way too soon, we are comforted that he will be in heaven with his dad, making him laugh, playing music with his smile lighting up the room," she wrote.
"We're sure he'll be doing 'wall ball' in the sky and rooting for all his friends."
Community Mourns Beloved Teen Athlete
Jessica said her son was injured while "playing the sport he loved the most."
She added that during his final days, he was "surrounded constantly by his family and the immense love from friends and this wonderful community in which we live."
The grieving mother also revealed that Eliot had recently earned his driver's license. He had also decided to become an organ donor.
"We are proud of this decision and the fact that he will be saving many lives," she said.
As news of Abramson's death spread throughout the community, tributes began pouring in from teammates, classmates, coaches, and local residents.
Reports indicate that a memorial outside Mercer Island High School's lacrosse field continued to grow throughout the week.
Additional memorial services are expected to be held in the coming days as family, friends, and the wider community come together to remember the young athlete and celebrate his life.
