A 15-year-old high school football player has died. Davion Fewell's death occurred several days after he was injured during a game on Thursday, Sep. 10.

What Happened at the Football Game?
Fewell was a student at Page High School in Greensboro, North Carolina. As WBTV reported, he was injured minutes into the junior varsity football game against Grimsley High School.
Officials have not disclosed the nature of Fewell's injury. After being treated by EMS at the scene, the student was taken to the hospital. WFMY reports that Fewell then died on Sunday, Sep. 13.
"Guilford County Schools is saddened by the loss to our school community," a statement from the school district read. "Our thoughts are with their family, teammates, coaches and classmates."
The football team added on
social media, "Please keep his family, teammates, friends, and staff close to your hearts. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers. He was truly a great kid and we miss him dearly."The team will hold a candlelight vigil at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, Sep. 17, at Marion Kirby Stadium, the school's football field.
"We hope to see a packed stadium celebrating a beautiful life," the post read.
A Crisis Team Is Helping Students
Guilford County Schools said a crisis team was dispatched to Page High School this week. It is there to help students and staff during this unforeseen tragedy.
The district also shared that it "stands ready" to assist Fewell's family.
According to WFMY, football practice resumed on Monday. Students also released balloons to remember Fewell.
The district said that the D.J. Reader Foundation, named for the New York Giants player, is helping to cover Fewell's funeral costs. Reader was a student football phenom at Grimsley High School.
This tragedy comes several weeks after the death of University of Iowa student and marching band member Derek Phillips. During the Hawkeyes' season opener on Sep. 5, he suffered a sudden "cardiac arrest" caused by the overwhelming heat during the game.
