The Leawood Police Department (located just outside of Kansas City) shared harrowing (and very cute) bodycam footage of the pint-sized canine stepping up to an officer as they patrolled a neighborhood at night on Sept. 17.

The little guy sported a leash, but had no apparent owner. In a scene straight out of Benji, the small dog barked at the officer, who shot back,  "Hi, why don't you go on back home?"

The officer, perhaps sensing the dog had a bit more information, went back to his police car. He then followed the peppy pup as it guided the officer down the suburban street, seemingly on a mission.

The police officer followed the pooch into a driveway just down the block. There, the dog and officer dup were greeted by yet another canine.

"Is this where you live?" the cop asked his two new four-legged friends.

That's when the officer made a harrowing discovery thanks to the quick-thinking hero dog: the house's garage was wide open. Inside, the homeowner was sprawled out on the garage floor.

"The resident had been there for more than three hours," the police department detailed on its

Facebook page. "Thanks to the resident's loyal companion, our officer was able to find them and get them the help they needed."

And yes, this story has a happy ending.

"The resident was treated by medical personnel and is now recovering safely at home," the Leawood Police Department added.

The Internet Praises the Loyal Dog For Helping Save Its Injured Owner: 'He Better Get a Steak Dinner'

Of course, the comments section is filled with onlookers praising the two dogs for aiding their master in their time of need.

"One dog stayed to protect the owner; the other dog went to look for help," one top comment read. "Good boy, he better get a steak dinner soon!" another onlooker added.

Plenty of onlookers praised the patience of the officer while figuring out what was wrong.

"What a good pup! Kudos to your officer for listening to the pup and following it home! The outcome could have been much different if not for the pup and your officer," one person speculated.

Meanwhile, more than a few pet lovers admitted that they doubted their pups would do the same if their tails were against the wall...

"My dog would step over my lifeless body and raid the kitchen with no care in the world," one person joked. "Our mastiff would be too scared to leave, our Shiba would run off chasing shadows, and our husky would play follow the leader with the Shiba," another onlooker added.

Here's hoping the past several days have been filled with lots of treats and new memories for the trio.
