However, history will not repeat in Santa Clara, California, on Feb. 8. In an Oval Office interview with the New York Post, President Trump made it very clear that he will not be watching the Seattle Seahawks take on the New England Patriots in person.

For Starters, President Donald Trump Can't Stand the Musical Performers
When Bad Bunny was announced as the performer for the Super Bowl Halftime Show, there was a considerable amount of backlash.
Yet despite being the most-streamed artist on Spotify for several years, President Trump claimed in an interview that he had never heard of the chart-topping reggaeton star.
The "Moscow Mule" artist has been critical of the President in the past. The recently announced opening band for the game, Green Day, is no fan of his either.
The punk trio got its start in the Bay Area in the late '80s, making it a good fit for the big game's location. But in the last year, it hasn't made their disdain for President Trump's policies a secret.
Back in July, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong encouraged an audience to chant "f*** Donald Trump" during a show in Belgium. At another show, he called the leader a "fat bastard."
President Trump made it clear in the interview that he wasn't pleased with the NFL's entertainment selections.
"I'm anti-them. I think it's a terrible choice. All it does is sow hatred. Terrible," Trump said.
The Real Reason Why President Trump Won't Be Going
However, it isn't the musicians that is keeping President Trump away from the Super Bowl this year. It's the distance.
"It's just too far away. I would. I've [gotten] great hands [at] the Super Bowl. They like me," he explained. "I would go if, you know, it was a little bit shorter."
He has a point. The trip from the White House to New Orleans is just shy of 1,100 miles. That's about a 3-hour flight, according to Google. The flight to Santa Clara takes about 5 hours and 30 minutes.
While a couple of extra hours in an airplane would be worth it to football fans, President Trump does have a country to run. Who knows what could happen in that time?
