Heartbroken Mother Speaks Out After Babysitter Sentenced In Capital Murder Of 2-Year-Old Boy

The grieving mother of Kristian Harris spoke out after a 25-year-old babysitter pled guilty to capital murder alongside other child abuse felonies after beating the 2-year-old boy to death. The boy tragically passed away on September 15, 2022, while his injured 11-month-old sister managed to survive.

Last Friday on December 13, Circuit Judge Michael P. Mills Jr. sentenced Makallie Elizabeth Durham to life in prison. Two years prior, deputies and medical personnel responded to a call about an unresponsive child in Corinth, Mississippi.

The authorities discovered the young boy to have many bruises and gashes, while his younger sister also had serious injuries of her own. They immediately took the children to Magnolia Regional Hospital, where doctors successfully treated the baby girl. Unfortunately, the young boy passed away within two days at the hospital.

Abusive And Murderous Babysitter Sentenced To Life In Prison

The photo of the babysitter's mugshot photo has now circulated online, depicting the criminal smirking on camera. We're unsure of the exact relationship between Jay Hurd, the mother, and the babysitter who pled guilty to capital murder. What we do know is that Hurd made a post saying "How could you be my friend, sis, bff?" sometime around her son's death.

On the same day that Durham was sentenced, Hurd made a heartwrenching post on Facebook. "You are finally getting the justice you deserve baby although I'm human I'll be honest," Hurd said while sharing a few photos of the boy.

"[N]othing will ever be enough for your life! But I did right by you son, I let God take control," it continues, "your story, our story is and will always change lives forever baby boy. I love you always."

This wasn't the only post from Kristian's family in mourning for the 2-year-old boy. Tamia Chantay, Kristian's aunt, also made a post in remembrance of her nephew. "Today after two long years and a few months, justice was served for our sweet baby, my nephew Kristian, that was abused & murdered September 15th, 2022, justice was served for the abuse of my niece 'Lani' as well!"

The aunt ended the post by saying "get the rest you deserve 'Christmas,'" which was one of Kristian's nicknames.

Hurd had shared multiple other photos of her late son since Durham's sentencing. Even though the incident is two years old, the sting is still fresh, and the murderer's sentence to life must feel like a relief.
