A Brazilian teen has died after injecting crushed butterflies into his leg for reasons that remain a mystery.

14-year-old Davi Nunes Moreira was rushed to hospital after being in excruciating pain for at least a week. Since he had injected butterfly remains in his leg, he was left limping and feverish. It was reported that he was barely able to walk, and was regularly sick.
The boy admitted to injecting mashed butterfly remains into his leg, along with water. Why he was doing it is anyone's guess. However, it is suspected that it had to do with an internet trend. Authorities expect that it was linked to a social media challenge he had seen.
However, the body, unsurprisingly, does not like foreign objects being injected incorrectly. The reaction he suffered before he died was possibly due to an aggressive allergic reaction. For a week he was left incapacitated in a hospital before he died from the injected butterflies in his body.
Experts Suspect Butterflies Induced Septic Shock
Although the official autopsy hasn't yet been completed, medical professionals suspect that the amateur concoction he injected led to septic shock. Because they don't know what it was he was injecting, several things could have killed the young man.
The large chunks of butterfly, as well as air in the injection, could have led to blockages in his veins. This then leads to a sudden death. However, it is possible that the injected butterfly also caused an allergic reaction or infection.
In a statement to Brazilian media, a doctor is quoted as saying "We don't know how he prepared this mixture or the size of the fragments he managed to inject into the body." Because the mashed butterfly he injected could have been in large chunks, it could have caused an embolism.
Injecting anything into the body, whether it's prescribed or not, should always be done with extreme caution. Many elements of the process can go wrong resulting in possibly fatal results. This young man, for some reason, decided to inject butterflies into his body.
