Right when it seemed like mainstream stars should consider taking a break from lyrics about tequila, Miranda Lambert helped craft an amazing throwback country tune out of a tired trope with 2019's "Tequila Does." The song and its less-is-more music video promoted her album Wildcard.
Lambert, along with her co-writers Jack Ingram and Jon Randall and producer Jay Joyce, created one of her most traditional-sounding story-songs to date from lyrics about how Lambert's drink of choice gets priority over leaving the bar with would-be cowboys who are "all hat, no cattle."
All three songwriters performed "Tequila Does" as an acoustic campfire singalong during the June 9 broadcast of the 2021 CMT Music Awards.

"Tequila Does" was the seventh of 14 album tracks unveiled before Wildcard's Nov. 1, 2019 release date. Prior reveals included "It All Comes Out in the Wash," "Locomotive, "Pretty Bitchin'," "Mess With My Head," "Bluebird" and the Maren Morris collaboration "Way Too Pretty For Prison."
