Midland Taps into 80s Country Gold with 'Make A Little'

As Midland gears up to release their debut album, their whetting fans' appetites with new tunes. The band just released "Make A Little," and it's sure to please those looking to Midland for a country renaissance of decades past.

"Make A Little" is a good old-fashioned "get together" tune. "There's just not enough love in the world," Mark Wystrach sings. "So we should make a little. Make a little more tonight."

Cheeky.

But not in a crass kind of way. Instead, the band channels some of the greats from 19980s and 1990s. Heck, they even name drop "Dixieland Delight." Basically, they coyly sing about sex in a way that wouldn't make your grandma blush. Kind of like George Strait.

Even that ripping guitar solo feels like it's from a few decades past.

So far, Midland is enjoying amazing success with the song "Drinkin' Problem." The new traditionalist tune took the No. 1 spot on Mediabase's country radio singles chart. So far the single moved more than 500,000 copies.

Midland formed in Dripping Springs, Texas after the three members met at a wedding in Wyoming. Before the trio formed, singer Mark Wystrach was an actor and underwear model. Bassist Cameron Duddy directed music videos for several pop superstars, even winning an MTV Video Music Award for directing "Locked Out Of Heaven" by Bruno Mars. He also directed Midland's debut video for "Drinkin' Problem."

Midland released their first EP in October 2016, selling a modest 18,700 units. That EP features five songs also on their debut album. Midland co-wrote all of the songs on the EP.

Shane McAnally co-wrote the band's debut single and also produced the album alongside Josh Osborne. That pair is also responsible for tons of other country hits gracing the radio. Midland's debut album On The Rocks comes out Sept. 22.

"Make A Little" Lyrics

It's a hard living, tail kicking
Trip that we're all on, but I'm betting
We can find a little sunshine in the night
It's a back breaking, soul taking
Road we walk, so what are we waiting for?
Baby let's turn off the lights
Cause girl there's just not enough love in this world

So we should make a little
Generate a little
Maybe even make the world a better place a little
We could turtle dove, Dixieland delight
You know it can't be wrong when it feels so right
It all comes down to you and me girl
There's just not enough love in the world
So we should make a little
Then make a little more tonight

It's a clock punching, cash crunching
And it all adds up to nothing
If you're in this thing long
So don't tease me, it's so easy
To just turn off the TV, and make some headlines of our own
Yeah girl, there's just not enough love in the world

So we should make a little
Conjugate a little
Maybe even make the world a better place a little
We could turtle dove, Dixieland delight
You know it can't be wrong when it feels so right
It all comes down to you and me girl
There's just not enough love in the world
So we should make a little
Then make a little more tonight

That's right
Yeah girl there's just not enough love in this world

So we should make a little
Consummate a little
Maybe even make the world a better place a little
We could turtle dove, Dixieland delight
You know it can't be wrong when it feels so right
It all comes down to you and me girl
There's just not enough love in the world
So we should make a little
Then make a little more
We should make a little
Then make a little more
We should make a little
Then make a little more tonight
Talk about loving all night
