Back in 2011, Kacey Musgraves was a name that most country fans had never heard of. At the time, the aspiring singer-songwriter was hard at work penning songs alongside Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark.
During this period, the three dreamed up many tracks that would later be featured on her 2013 debut album, Same Trailer Different Park. One song that also came to life during this time ended up becoming a huge hit for another female country star.
"Mama's Broken Heart" is now known as one of Miranda Lambert's most adventurous releases, spotlighting the fearlessness that is rooted in all of her releases. What many country fans may not realize is that the track was actually penned by Musgraves, McAnally and Clark.
In this rarely-seen video, you'll see footage of Musgraves hard at work in the studio set to the demo version of "Mama's Broken Heart." With minimal production and accompaniment, the track has a much different vibe than the version made famous by Lambert. The attitude is a bit more subdued and features a pop sound instead of the hard-rocking, intense feel of its final version.
Musgraves still regularly performs an acoustic rendition of the track during her solo performances. Check out the video above to hear the original version of "Mama's Broken Heart."
