Brandy Clark’s latest single “Big Day in a Small Town” expertly describes the personal dramas that become beauty shop gossip. From scandalous affairs to a touchdown at the high school football game, everything and anything becomes news in small town America.
“There ain’t no mall, no Waffle House, but there’s always something to talk about,” Clark proclaims, reflecting on the stories that were similar to those she heard growing up in her own hometown. Click below to hear it for yourself.
The single is the title track to Clark’s second studio album, which is set for release on June 10. Although she found huge success with her major label debut, 2013’s 12 Stories, Clark hasn’t let it get to her head.
“When I made 12 Stories, I think my dreams were a lot more realistic, in that I didn’t expect a lot to happen… then it did,” Clark explained in a press release. “This time, my dreams are very much what they were when I was going to Vince Gill and Patty Loveless concerts and decided I was going to move to Nashville. Right now, my dreams are as big as when I was naïve enough to really dream them.”
Although her sound is more layered and evolved than ever, she’s stuck to her down-to-earth style of storytelling that country fans have come to love. Judging from its two strong lead singles, Big Day in a Small Town will likely be one of the best country releases of 2016.
