"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of the Bronx' own Ross 'The Boss,' Friedman, who died last night after battling ALS," the caption read. "A legendary guitarist and beloved father, his music and spirit impacted fans around the world as much as you impacted him."
The post then continued to praise the impact Ross's music had on his fans worldwide. It also reminded everyone of his love for music and his talent with a guitar.
"His music meant everything to him & his guitar was his life's breath. This insidious disease took that away from him," the caption continued. "His legacy with The Dictators, Manowar, Ross the Boss Band and other collabs will live on forever in our hearts and ears."
Ross's passing will hit the metal community hard. His music touched millions of people, leading to him being inducted into the Metal Hall of Fame in 2017.
Ross Friedman Announced His ALS Diagnosis in February
According to PEOPLE, Ross originally announced his ALS diagnosis on February 9. He noted that his diagnosis came shortly after suffering "very minor strokes."
"It's difficult to know what lies ahead, and it crushes me not to be able to play guitar, but the outpouring of love has been so, so strong," Ross said in a statement.
As noted in the post to his Instagram page, his battle with ALS was short-lived. However, it ultimately played a role in his passing. It's worth noting that ALS is ultimately fatal, as currently, there is no cure, although it can be treated.
