Gretchen Wilson Opens up About Spirit Sequel to "Redneck Woman"

Gretchen Wilson stormed to prominence in the early 2000s with earthy hits like "Here for the Party" and "Redneck Woman." The latter, a sassy co-write with John Rich, really caught on with females who loved the affirmation from Wilson that a woman could be rowdy and real and it was perfectly okay. The singer made a splashy comeback with an appearance last year on The Masked Singer and a role as the tour manager and unofficial den mother on The Road.

For all Wilson's fans who have been pining for another track in the mode of "Redneck Woman," there is great news. Per Page Six, Gretchen Wilson dropped a follow-up song of sorts to "Redneck Woman" on Friday, May 1. "Redneck S--t" will please the legions of listeners who loved the first track and waited patiently for one in the same vein.

Wilson Described What Led to the New Song

It sounds like the idea for a sequel song was percolating in Wilson's mind for a long while. "For 20 plus years, I've been looking at guys out in the audience singing, 'I'm a Redneck Woman.' And I was like, 'One of these days, I have to write something for everybody, not just the women.'" At last, she did!

Furthermore, she explained, "This song is really just for anybody and everybody. It doesn't matter where you're from, or who you are, or what walk of life [you come from]. If you've ever wanted to just get stupid and muddy in the backyard and have a party, this is your song!"

Gretchen Wilson is evidently very confident about the popularity of '"Redneck S--t." She proudly referred to it as "the song of the summer," according to the outlet.

More Good News About Her Music

Wilson's 2004 album, "Here for the Party." is reportedly getting an exciting new reboot. Per the outlet, it promises to be "a star-studded duets project." The country music icons said to be on board include Cody Johnson and Tanya Tucker, with Ella Langley, Travis Tritt, and Miranda Lambert possibly jumping on as well.

The Singer Lived the Redneck Life Herself

She shared the fact that she believes her authenticity enhances her appeal to audiences. "I think people really relate to [me] because [I'm] not trying to put on any kind of an air; what you see is what you get, and people like that," Wilson declared.
