37-year-old singer, Muni Long, is just now opening up about her health troubles. She said she started having problems while on Brandy and Monica's 2025 The Boy Is Mine Tour. The singer suggested that she shouldn't have done the tour. Doctors previously diagnosed her with Lupus.
While on tour, she developed pneumonia and left a show early.
"I should have never taken that tour," she shared on Good Morning America. "But there was so much going on in my life where I had to do it."
Long went home for Thanksgiving and said that she woke up in the hospital. Her condition was extremely dire. "I knew for a really long time that something was wrong," she said. "Every day I'm, like, spitting in cups and coughing all the time, trying to take all these medicines to just get through the day. With this industry, you're always in people's faces. So, I'm taking pictures, and I'm just huffing and puffing like I just ran a marathon."
Grammy-Winning Singer Given a Week to Live
Doctors soon dropped a bombshell on the singer. They gave her just a week to live.
"My jaw dropped," she said. "Literally. I was like, 'That's rude.' But they were kind of like, 'Hey, this is not a joke. You need to make a choice. You can either go to hospice or you can get these lungs.'"
She hesitated to get the surgery but decided to do it after thinking about her young toddler.
"And I think about how much more life that I have to live. Quality of life was first. I can't sing if I'm not here," the singer said. It's been six months, and she's doing a lot better now than she was previously.
She encouraged others to put their health forward.
"Lupus disproportionally affects Black women, who are just expected to show up and be everything for everybody," she noted. "Don't put yourself on the back burner for everyone else. You need to focus on you. You need to pour into yourself. Don't be afraid to say no."
