Young Golf Phenom Dies Tragically at Age 18

In a tragic and shocking development, Australian teenage golfer Jessica Bang has died at the age of 18, reportedly from a brain hemorrhage. Per news.com.au, she passed away "while in Thailand to compete in a qualifying tournament, with the WPGA Tour of Australasia confirming the 18-year-old's death."

A GoFundMe Was Started for Her

She had a medical crisis on Saturday, August 1. At Bangkok's Synphat Ramintra Hospital, according to the outlet, Bang had brain surgery. Her cousins, Amelia and Summer, had begun a GoFundMe for her. Her loved ones hoped to bring Jessica Bang home so she could recover there with them by her side. She was reportedly "on life support in intensive care" in the hospital, per the outlet. The GoFundMe essay called her hemorrhage "devastating."

In an update, the very sad word of Bang's passing was added on Thursday, August 13. Her grieving cousins wrote in part, "We are truly heartbroken by this news. However, we would like to continue to remember Jessica and celebrate her achievements, passion, and dedication to golf. As her cousins, we will forever cherish the time and memories we shared with Jessica.'

The essay went on, "Her sense of humour, together with her cheerful and vibrant personality, will always be remembered and treasured by our family. The funds we have raised will be given to her parents to help contribute towards her medical expenses."

The WPGA Tour of Australasia Issued a Statement

Noting the death of Jessica Bang, the WPGA Tour of Australasia released this statement via the outlet. "The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the WPGA Tour of Australasia and the broader Australian golf community are with Jessica's family, friends and all those who knew and loved her at this incredibly difficult time."

She Had a Solid Start in Her Golf Career

Bang got off to a superb start in her golfing career. Per the GoFundMe, her nickname was "Rookie Bang." In fact, the talented teen was on the brink of beginning her first season in the WPGA/KLPGA. Earlier this year, Bang landed a big victory in the Ford NSW Regional Championship.
