Never give loyalty to something that will never give it back. After 38 years of tireless work, A GM worker was laid off with an email.

As part of a global mass layoff, GM informed 60-year-old Adam Bernard that he was no longer employed. After the brutal laying off of the GM worker, he had little else to do than turn to social media to lament his fresh unemployment. At such a late stage in life, there are few other options.

Bernard posted a message to LinkedIn, the home of the unemployed. "Well, in unexpected news, I was let go from GM at 5:07 a.m. this morning via email, along with (I hear unofficially) about 1,000 people globally. I wonder what I should do next...?" However, his post was noticed, and the injustice of GM letting a loyal employee go so brutally didn't go down easy.

Joel Lalgee, a recruiter with a quarter of a million followers on LinkedIn picked up his story. He immediately took to TikTok to highlight the problem. If GM thought they could get away with such disloyalty to their worker, they had another thing coming.

Internet Up In Arms At Layoff Of Loyal GM Worker

As the recruiter points out in his video, "That's a lifetime of loyalty." Furthermore, he says, "To be let go by email. If that doesn't prove how companies treat and view loyalty, I don't know what does." And he has a good point. This kind of dedication is rarely recognized, and it makes you wonder if they see us as humans at all.

However, there was a lot of support for the laid-off GM worker in the comments. His position and problem is not unheard of. "This happened to my dad. 35 years with a pension and they wanted to lay him off 5 months before his [inputted] retirement date. He took them to court and they lost. But broke my dads heart." Apparently, the behavior of GM with this employee happens across the board. In this case it was to avoid paying retirement.

As another wisely puts it, "The only people that will remember that you stayed late at work are your kids." And that made me think. Maybe it's time to spend more time with my loved ones. I'm going to step away from the desk for today, the pub needs me.
