A child is dead after an unspeakable freak accident. That occurred while playing with her friends, according to a Monday (September 21) report from the New York Post.

Child Dead After Freak Accident While Playing With Her Friends
The 11-year-old English girl, named Lilly Angel Rodgers, was doing a "commando crawl" through a muddy area with a group of her friends. While crawling through the bank, a pointed branch penetrated her ribs, according to the outlet.
It was at that point that she realized she had been injured. This caused her to stand up before she collapsed to the ground.
According to Rodgers' mother, she had spent the prior night sleeping at a friend's house before heading to the bank the following day. The friend's mother, along with her partner, told investigators they had been cooking a meal for the pre-teens. She stated that the children were in their view at the time.
Upon realizing the girl was hurt, the mother and her partner tried to reach the young girl in the mud to assist her. Before first responders arrived at the scene.
According to the outlet, the young girl had to be airlifted to dry land for the first responders to administer CPR. A process that took "roughly 40 minutes."
Unfortunately, the injuries that she suffered were fatal. The branch had pierced into Amy's pulmonary artery. This caused her heart to stop, and she ultimately succumbed to her injuries.
Dr. James Garvican, the physician who performed Amy's autopsy, said that her official cause of death was "penetrating chest trauma." He called her death a case of "extremely bad luck."
"Half an inch to the right and it would just have glanced off her ribcage. And left a bruise and a scratch. Half an inch to the left and it may still have gone in, but it would not have damaged vital organs. This was not a survivable injury," Garvican said to the outlet.
