NBC has released the first trailer for Dolly Parton‘s upcoming TV movie, Coat of Many Colors.
The film is based around Parton’s hit autobiographical song of the same name, and features Jennifer Nettles as Parton’s mother Avie, Ricky Schroder as her father, and Alyvia Alyn Lind as young Dolly.
Coat of Many Colors is the first in a series of television movies developed by Parton that are expected to be released through 2016. The film takes place in 1955, when Dolly was only 9 years old, and features a partially fictionalized version of Parton’s childhood. After the loss of Parton’s unborn sibling, the family struggles to stay intact through their grief. Along with these struggles, young Dolly is also faced with bullying over the patchwork coat made by her mother.
Parton says she’s excited to share this new window into her past with fans. “It’s really almost like my life story, summed up,” Parton said during a press conference, according to Rolling Stone Country. “People already know the other parts, but this little part shows really how and why all that happened.”
Coat of Many Colors will premiere Thursday, December 10th, at 9:00 p.m. ET on NBC.
