New ‘Anne of Green Gables’ Movie to Air on PBS Thanksgiving Day

Some books create a magical atmosphere that makes you want to read it over and over again. And, sometimes, a mini-series version appears that becomes an annual binge-watching ritual. The beloved 1985 mini-series version of L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables features that same magic. Now, PBS is jumping on the bandwagon and bringing a modern take on the beloved classic this Thanksgiving.

The family-friendly station announced last week that they will air a brand new version of Anne of Green Gables on Thanksgiving Day. And, in even bigger news, Martin Sheen will be filling the shoes of Matthew Cuthbert in this heartwarming saga of a precocious, red-headed orphan named Anne (with an e).

The story follows a young girl’s many missteps and adventures under the care of the strict brother-and-sister duo, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. The trailer captures all the wild beauty of Prince Edward Island off the eastern coast of Canada.

This new movie has big shoes to fill by following the classic 1985 version. However, Anne fans will probably be ready for a new way to get their Green Gables fix. Directly after the new movie, PBS will also air the 2005 version of Pollyanna.

PBS’s classic lineup airs the night before Gilmore Girls fans can binge on brand new Netflix episodes coming out on Black Friday. Somehow we’ll have to make room for Stars Hollow and Avonlea tales all in one weekend. It’s going to be a heartwarming Thanksgiving weekend!
