Two men, Demetrice Ross and Brandon Williams, were sentenced to life in prison in connection with the 2022 murder of Thomas Arnold. Ross's mother, Valerie, after hearing her son's sentence, scolded the jury for how quickly they found him guilty, expressing her intention of appealing.

According to WSBTV, after Judge Craig Schwall handed the life sentences to both Ross and Williams, Valerie Ross managed to speak in court, persisting in her son's innocence.
"I believe in my heart, with my whole heart, with my whole heart, with my whole heart, with my whole heart, with my whole heart, with my whole heart, my son Demetrice Ross is innocent," Valerie told the jury.
Then, while continuing to gesticulate while delivering her speech, Valerie went on to criticize the jury. According to her, the jurors rushed to the decision of declaring him guilty, and declared her intention to appeal the decision.
"I know the truth. I wasn't there, but I know the truth. He's not going to lie to me," Valerie added, as per the Daily Mail.
Murder Of Thomas Arnold
According to the New York Post, the murder of Thomas Arnold took place on February 26, 2022. At the time, Arnold had spent the evening with friends and was returning home. Reportedly, Ross and Williams, who were spotted on surveillance cameras following a woman, attempted to rob Arnold.
The very next morning, Arnold's body was found near the intersection of Elizabeth Street and Bernina Avenue. He had suffered gunshot wounds. It took police two weeks to arrest Brandon Williams, who is the one who took the shot at Arnold. A week later, U.S. Marshals arrested Demetrice Ross.
More than three years after the fatal incident, Ross's and Williams's trial began on April 24, only lasting four days. Both of them were found guilty of numerous charges, which include malice murder, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Before delivering their sentence to life without parole, Judge Schawll delivered a passionate and direct message to them.
"Your repugnant and depraved conduct has earned you the certainty that each of you will perish in prison," Schwall said. "This was a cold and calculated murder. These defendants' conduct was devoid of morality. And it was willful and intentional without any concern whatsoever for the value of human life, all human life."
Arnold's family, as per WSBTV, will feel closure once the appeals are over. They describe him as a loving uncle, a man who fosterd dogs, and a man who enjoyed traveling.
