Just two weeks after posting a message to mourn the loss of Roy Cooper, the ProRodeo Hall of Famer, George Strait posts another message of mourning. This time about country icon Johnny Rodriguez.
Johnny Rodriguez passed last Friday at 73 years old. His passing was confirmed by his daughter, Aubry, in an Instagram post, marking a sad day for country fans.
His death has also stirred George Strait and his wife, Norma. He penned a message for the late legend and posted the tribute for his followers to see.
Strait wrote, "Norma and I are so sad about Johnny's passing. He was an inspiration to me from the beginning."
"Being from South Texas myself, it gave me so much hope knowing that he had become such a huge success...that maybe there was hope for a guy like me. What a great talent he was. God bless his family, friends and fans. You'll be missed, amigo. -gs."
It's bittersweet to know that Johnny Rodriguez was an inspiration for young George. You can feel the heartache through the screen.
Johnny Rodriguez Passes Away; Cause Unknown
When his daughter posted the gut-wrenching tribute about Johnny Rodriguez's passing, she didn't share how he died, or the circumstances surrounding his death.
"It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Johnny Rodriguez, who left us peacefully on May 9th, surrounded by family," she wrote. That last clause is the only information we get on the setting of his departure.
After a lengthy passage on what he meant to his family and to his fans, Aubry concluded with a plea for privacy. "While the world has lost an extraordinary talent, we have lost someone irreplaceable - and we ask for privacy as we navigate this painful moment together."
This need for privacy is likely why his cause of death wasn't disclosed, which is perfectly understandable.
I wish for his family to have the strength to heal together.
