Today, George Strait and his high school sweetheart Norma celebrate their 44th anniversary.
The couple eloped to Mexico in 1971, and later exchanged vows in Pearsall, Texas at the request of Norma's parents.
George and Norma weren't just high school sweethearts; they've known each for a long, long time. He spoke about their early days in an interview with Strait revealed in an interview with CBSLocal.
"Norma was the first girl I ever loved. "We knew each other forever, growing up in a small town. I never really even thought anything about her, but then one day I asked her out and we went on a date. We didn't see each other for a long time after that. Then one day, I thought, 'I'm missing the boat here,' and we started dating again."
Strait doesn't spend too much time in the public eye these days, but he did rave about his wife in 2011 interview with People for his 40th anniversary back in 2011.
"We love each other and we still like each other," said Strait. "We're so blessed that we were able to experience this life together, to support each other through everything, good times and bad."
Blessed indeed. Strait has one son, Bubba, who you may remember seeing share the stage with his dad at the ACM Awards in Dallas last April.
Christmas season is a big time for the Strait family. George, Norma and Bubba will spend the day with their family on their ranch. Strait toldUSA Today how they spend the special day.
"On Christmas, I get up early, while it's still dark, and make a big fire. The rest of the family is still asleep. I have presents hidden all over the house, and I'll bring those out. I'll get out the cookies and milk. I still like to do that for Santa because he's always hungry."
We're wishing the Strait family and you a happy holidays!
