Gayle King Called This MTV Reality Star a "Douche Canoe”

Spencer Pratt says he's been "called everything at this point," but he's never been called a "douche canoe."

What's even more surprising is that the name came from the respected CBS Mornings host Gayle King.

The 42-year-old star of the MTV reality show The Hills shared his reaction to King's comments on the SiriusXM radio show Page Six Radio. We have the details below.

Spencer Pratt Is Promoting His Book

Pratt was on CBS Mornings to promote his memoir, The Guy You Loved to Hate: Confessions from a Reality TV Villain. The book talks about his time on The Hills and how his co-star and now-wife, Heidi Montag, lost all their money.

As the book's title suggests, Pratt has a reputationso King confronted him about it.

"Spencer, there were so many times where, really, you were just a douche canoe on that show," she said. "And you just seemed to amp it up, amp it up, amp it up. Was there ever a time when you got home, and you'd go, 'I can't believe I just did that or just said that'? Or were you aware of how you were coming across at the time?"

Pratt offered a humorous reply. "Oh, I was well aware," he said. "If anything, I probably should have been a bigger douche canoe. I think the rest of the cast should have all tried to be bigger douche canoes."

Pratt Says Gayle King Threw Him Off

Pratt says that King didn't use the term "douche canoe" during the pre-show interview. That's why when she said it during the interview, he was caught off guard.

"She threw me off because we had a 30-min pre [interview] and she had notes, my whole book, all these quotes," said Pratt. "So I don't know if she did it to get me soft, you know?

"If it was a bait-and-switch, like she's a pro or once she gets in front of the camera? But I was expecting to get gassed up and just be like, 'Oh, this book is like Robert Frost, it's so poetic,' and then she was like, 'You're a douche canoe!' "

As evidenced by the interview, Pratt wasn't upset by King's remark. This will serve him well as he runs for mayor of Los Angeles.

"I'm very humble these days," he added. "I'm grateful to be sitting with lights in a studio and not just filming myself. You can get away with calling me anything with good lighting."
