Garth Brooks to Play Free Show for Austin Residents on Saturday

UPDATE: All of the tickets to this event have sold out.

Yup, the rumors were true. Country superstar Garth Brooks announced on Friday morning that he's going to play a free show on the SXSW Outdoor Stage on Saturday night.

The Live Music Capitol is in for a night to remember. Austin residents from select zip codes are eligible for free tickets to the event through Ticketmaster. Badge and wristband holders will also have  access based on capacity. Garth will take the stage at 8 p.m.

Set against Lady Bird Lake downtown, the SXSW Outdoor Stage series is the largest music event of SXSW. 50,000 people attend the three nights of shows at Auditorium Shores. Brooks regularly sells out venues with that figure as a capacity. You can bet a few thousand — probably a gross underestimate — will take advantage of this opportunity to see him play.

Brooks is also scheduled to give the keynote address at the music conference on Friday. He'll discuss his new partnership with Amazon Music.

The news comes on the heels of Brooks' announcement that he'll be opening and closing the 2018 Houston Stock Show and Rodeo. The two shows are set for Feb. 27 and March 18. Check here for more information about tickets.
