Garth Brooks Had Just Added the Show
As PEOPLE reports, the 64-year-old Brooks added a third performance to his run of shows in November at the T-Mobile Center in downtown Kansas City on Oct. 21. The dates are part of his "Blame It All on My Roots" tour.
"Because of social media posts and our history with Kansas City, I felt we left people unable to get tickets on the original on-sale," Brooks said on his website. "I was the one who suggested we put a lower bowl Saturday matinee up for sale."
Tickets then went on sale on Friday, Oct. 23. More than 90,000 people were in the queue to buy tickets that morning. But most of them weren't people at all, according to Brooks. They "turned out to be bots."
"The bots flooded the on-sale, holding tickets throughout the floor and lower bowl, creating a scenario that limited access to floor or lower bowl tickets," the notice read.
Brooks Apologized to Kansas City Fans
The situation became "significant enough" that T-Mobile Center and ticketing company AXS then stopped the sale and canceled the matinee show. Before that cancellation was official, the "Friends In Low Places" singer apologized to fans on Oct. 23.
"The bot situation is out of hand. It's been progressively getting worse on this tour," Brooks wrote on social media. "With that said, my concern is for the people who managed to buy tickets today for the third show in Kansas City before the bots crashed the on sale."
He then added that he will "personally" see what can be done.
"You have my word that all that can be done will be done," Brooks said. "You have my deepest apologies for the results and my most sincere appreciation for your efforts today."
Those who were able to get tickets to the matinee show "will be automatically refunded to the original method of payment used for purchase." Brooks is still scheduled to perform on the evenings of Nov. 6 and 7.
