Garth Brooks Will Open and Close 2018 Houston Rodeo

Some big news, Texans: Garth Brooks will perform two shows at the 2018 Houston Stock Show and Rodeo.

The concerts are set for Feb. 28 and March 18, bookending the nearly month-long event. The last time Brooks performed at the Houston Rodeo was 1993, right when his career was first kicking into high gear.

Brooks made the announcement on Friday after teasing the news on social media.

"It's with great humility and great appreciation that we accept this offer to come here and play," Brooks told the conference. "You've got a year to prepare. Just make you sure you bring a helmet — it's going to be loud and fun!"

There's some more big Garth Brooks news on the way. The word on the street is that Brooks is going to perform a free concert during SXSW on Saturday night. He's going to make an announcement on Friday morning, the day of his keynote address at the music conference.

Brooks also posted this to social media last night, and I don't think he's getting people hyped up for his keynote speech.

We had a hunch Brooks would return to the Houston Rodeo sometime soon. A couple years ago he told a show in Houston that he would take on the task if offered.

"You guys have a really cool gig at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo," Brooks said. "So I'll tell you what, let's make a deal: If I'm lucky enough to get invited... I'll see you at the rodeo!"
