Florida State updated its "Alerts" page, canceling all classes and business operations through Friday. Essential employees must consult supervisors for instructions. All athletic events in Tallahassee are canceled through Sunday, the Democrat reported. The Student Union and surrounding areas remain an active crime scene, and students are urged to avoid the area and refrain from retrieving personal property.
Paige Miller, a Florida State freshman, was in a restroom near the Student Union when she heard four loud bangs, according to the outlet. "I thought the roof was collapsing," she said. Three girls rushed in, one crying, and warned of an active shooter. Miller called 911 and helped hold the unlocked restroom door shut for 20 minutes until police arrived.
Outside, she saw one person on the ground surrounded by officers and two others appearing injured near the Student Union. "It was terrifying," she added.
This marks FSU's first shooting since November 2014, when Myron May, a 31-year-old alumnus, opened fire in Strozier Library, injuring three before police killed him. May, who struggled with mental illness, shot at seven people, leaving one student paralyzed.

Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare reported treating six patients, one in critical condition and five in serious condition, according to spokesperson Stephanie Derzypolski. Social media posts and news reports vary on injury counts, but officials have not confirmed any fatalities.
