Jimmy Carter Dies at 100 Years Old
The internet is reacting wildly to the passing of Jimmy Carter. Some celebrate his long life and his presidency. For instance, one person lauds his accomplishments in office and expresses that the Georgian is the sort of person you want in office. "Perhaps the best post-presidency ever," they tweet. "He showed us the sort of person a POTUS is supposed to be."
There are those that bring up Jimmy Carter's work and critiques of Israel. One Twitter user posts a video where he speaks at length about the relations between Israel and Palestine. "The word 'apartheid is exactly accurate... they are absolutely and totally separated... the Israelis completely dominate the life of the Palestinian people," the former president says in the video. "There are powerful political forces in America that prevent any objective analysis. I think it's accurate to say that not a single member of Congress... would possibly speak out and call for Israel to withdraw to their legal boundaries or publicize the plight of the Palestinians."
Another person highlights a quote from Jimmy Carter in a Rolling Stone headline that says America is an "oligarchy with unlimited political bribery." Additionally, the person who posts the headline candidly speaks about Carter in their caption. "Jimmy Carter was the one ex-president in the modern era to openly admit (and lament) the truth about what America has become in the post-Citizens United era. The national press corps probably won't mention this, but it was really something. He was a real one. RIP," they write.
